Shannon proved in 1948 that a maximally efficient encoding must look like noise. The more information a signal carries, the more unpredictable it must be.

Your hash is not random. It is maximally informative. Shannon entropy is the mathematical measure of that.

Low-entropy text repeats. High-entropy text resists prediction. A receipt hash sits at the ceiling: every character carries roughly the same amount of information, and no character predicts the next.

Claude Shannon · 1916–2001

Shannon was a mathematician at Bell Labs. In 1948, at age 32, he published A Mathematical Theory of Communication: a single paper that invented information theory.

It defined entropy, channel capacity, and the bit in one document. Every compression algorithm, every encryption system, every AI training loop uses his mathematics.

He spent his later years riding a unicycle through the Bell Labs hallways, juggling. He knew he had already changed everything.
