What actually happens inside AI when you ask it something?

That is the whole thing. Six steps, repeated once per word, very fast.
Nothing magic happens. The machine does not know what "sky" means. It knows which numbers cluster near which other numbers. It guesses the next token, then the next, then the next.
When people say AI is a stochastic parrot, they are pointing at Step 5. When people say AI is doing reasoning, they are pointing at Step 3. Both are partly true.
